Basketball over Golf Beginning
~
Well AAU Basketball is over for now, and summer
is here, so its time for our short, but busy, golf season to get underway.
We had a pretty successful season and played up to our potential, in most games, and ending with a good record of 31 and 14.

The first Coca Cola Jr. event in Vermont was held Wednesday and it was hosted by Neshobe Golf Club in Brandon VT.
It's quite a drive from my house in East Montpelier, but it's a pretty course and challenging as well, certainly worth the drive down.
I was paired with Sam Myers a fellow competitor that I have played with a couple of times before.
It was a rainy day with brief periods of sunshine but dry for the most part early with a steadier rain later.
Having not had a bunch of time to get in some meaningful practice since Basketball plus the weather hasn't cooperated either I wasn't expecting much, and it has been the same for most everybody else too.
Heading off on the 1st tee, I had a pretty good opening drive, hitting the fairway out there a to a good distance.

Bogeyed the opening hole and the second hole, but bounced back with
a nice birdie putt on the 3rd.

I finished the round shooting 79 with poor front nine but decent back, and in spite of the rain I enjoyed the round and playing with Sam, and we stayed mostly dry .
Picture of Sam and I on the 18th, yes he is much taller, but he is a freshman in High School and a very good ball striker as well.

Not sure where we finished in our bracket since we left before everyone was in and it was raining steadily at that point.
So we headed on home and then on up to Mom Moms for our weekly stay over.
After spending the night there Me, Pop Pop, and Riley headed to OCC for our first trip there this summer, we got on the course early about 6:45 AM, the fairways were soaked, and the greens were not mowed on the 1st few holes, but we were working on our games and not shooting for score, so it was not a problem at all.
We let a couple of groups play through us since we were hitting balls from everywhere.
On the 9th hole Terry Kelly who has been a member there for many years caught us too, so we just asked her to join us for the 9th and final hole for us.
Terry was at one time the ladies club champion, and on the 9th hole she chipped her approach in the hole, and before the clapping was over for that shot, I chipped mine in so we back to back chip-ins.
Pop Pop and Riley didn't fare as well.

We only played 9 holes and then went to the practice range to put in some work on the short game for an hour or so before heading for home.
As we were leaving we were excited to meet some old friends walking out, especially our very dear friend and mentor from when he was the head professional there when I was first introduced to the game,
Mr Bob Silvester
